Long ago I got iTM DJ as a hold over MIDI controller until the arrival of my VCI-100. I wasn't too happy with the knobs, though the rest of the features were quite useable. For one the top knobs cannot really be adjusted all the way, because the display simply ends. Same goes for the gain knobs that can be pulled out (though its quite hard to get this pull out/in action to actually work). The latency however is impressively low and the rest of the buttons and faders are quite useable. There is however one big omission: there is no way to select the channel. MIDI Patchbay to the rescue! This is a freeware app (thx!) that lets you basically catch all MIDI commands from a given device and remap them to a different channel or transpose the MIDI notes. So after a bit of fiddeling (its quite annoying that Traktor Pro doesn't provide a way to rescan the available MIDI devices, so I had to restart Traktor Pro several times until things were working), I have now moved iTM DJ to channel 10 both for input as well as output. A huge help was the also free MIDI Monitor app. I guess I now have a pretty good controller to use along with the smart mixing technique BentoSan has been talking about a lot on DJTT, which I will be trying out this weekend. The other project this weekend is diving into the Traktor Pro settings export format to see if I can better manage my changes to the Ean's mappings.
