Planet Digital DJ

This planet service is still in beta and might be moved elsewhere but I wanted to start collecting feedback, especially hearing what feeds people would like to see added. So what is this all about? The idea is that instead of having to manually maintain a list of feeds, you get a central service that does the work for you! The greatest benefit is that new feeds will pop up on your radar more quickly. For new comers they finally have a chance in hell of getting noticed. The net result will hopefully be that more people will feel encouraged to blog about their findings which will hopefully lead to more collaboration and exchange of ideas. For now the focus of the planet is any blog that talks about techniques, software and hardware for digital DJ's (and to some extend also electronic music producers).

I have left out sites that list events and mixes, events if they are by digital DJs. I think those should be provided in other ways, like for mixes using the DJTT Soundcloud group or for events we should look more towards a calender solution. If you do make the occasional mix or event related post, thats not a problem, however ideally you could just provide a dedicated RSS feed that just contains planet "compatible" posts. The easiest way is to always tag all posts that should be send to the planet with "planet" and then have your blog software export a feed with all entries tagged with "planet". I have also left out blogs of software and hardware makers. Many do not even have blogs which would mean to get them onto the planet they would either have to add RSS feeds to their news, or we would have to screen scrape their news section. What do you guys think, should NI, ableton, the itouchmidi.com guys etc be on the planet? Of course we always have the option of creating various subplanets and then one super planet that aggregates it all.

In terms of technology, you can read more on my web technology related blog. In short I am using Yahoo pipes, which makes the entire process a breeze and means that anyone can look at the source and modify it as needed.
